Hot Water Cylinders

If you are planning on using a heat pump system to connect to your domestic hot water pipes then you will need a cylinder attached.  Hot water cylinders are essential as they stop the water from your radiators mixing with the water that is coming out of the taps.  The water that flows around inside the pipes of your radiators will also flow through a loop in the domestic hot water cylinder, this loop warms up the water inside the tank ready to come through the taps and your shower.

Standard hot water cylinders have quite a small heat exchanger as the water flowing through the pipes is at about 75 degrees, this is plenty warm enough to heat up domestic hot water to the desired temperature.  However the water that comes from an air source heat pump is only running through the pipes at 55 degrees, meaning the loop inside the cylinder needs to be far larger to allow a maximum heat transfer between the loop and the water thats going to be coming out of the taps.  That is where our specialist range of heat pump domestic hot water cylinders come into play.

In addition to a range of hot water cylinders we also have available direct and indirect buffer tanks,  these buffer tanks increase the water stored in a heating system and allow the heat pump to run at optimum efficiency, stopping any chance of short cycling the heat pump or being without hot water at any time because the heat pump has gone into defrost mode.

We also have thermal stores available for people wishing to use their heat pump alongside a wood or a multi fuel burning boiler.  As wood burning stoves are a very unreliable and unpredicatbale source of heat it is very dangerous to connect them to an unvented cylinder, with the high possibility of the cylinder bursting - open vented thermal stores allow you to produce as much heat and hot water as you like while having somewhere to store it until you need to use it.
